Strengthening our expertise to support health organisations through change

Currie & Brown has welcomed Mike Simpson as a Director in our UK Healthcare Advisory Services team. His appointment strengthens our ability to support clients as they face major changes across health estates.

Mike has strong experience in the health and the wider public sector. At Community Health Partnerships (CHP), he helped the NHS improve productivity and patient flow across its LIFT estate. Before that, he led large change programmes at University Hospitals Leicester (UHL) and Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust. These included NLaG’s largest Urgent and Emergency Care transformation, diagnostics and wider reconfiguration programme.

At Currie & Brown, Mike will help clients to plan and deliver estate changes that align with Trust goals and wider NHS plans, including the new 10-Year Health Plan.

“Transformational change is needed.”

Martin Clark, UK Head of Health, said: “We’re at a turning point for health estates. Many buildings are ageing, clinical needs are growing, and funding pressures are intense. The end of PPP contracts adds another layer of complexity for Trusts. But this period of change also brings opportunity. With the NHS 10-Year Health Plan on the horizon and the likely launch of a new PFI model, we expect greater clarity and fresh chances for investment. Now more than ever, health organisations need trusted support to plan ahead and make confident decisions.

“Mike’s experience with public-private partnerships and leading major change will be a real asset as Trusts look to adapt and thrive in this new chapter.”

A joined-up approach to complex estate challenges

Mike Simpson, Director, commented: “Throughout my career, I’ve focused on improving health estates so they better serve clinicians and patients. What drew me to Currie & Brown is the clarity of that same purpose, paired with the strength of a truly integrated team.

“The challenges facing health organisations aren’t linear. You might be tackling maintenance backlogs, managing PPP handback, and delivering capital projects all at once. Currie & Brown has the capability to address each challenge – but also connect the dots and drive meaningful efficiencies. That’s the impact I’m excited to make.”
