Associate Director/Senior Quantity Surveyor

Currie & Brown is currently looking for an associate director/senior quantity surveyor for our San Francisco office who meets the following requirements:

  • BSc in construction management, quantity surveying or equivalent
  • Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) is an advantage
  • A minimum of ten years' experience within a construction consultancy
  • Experience working on large complex capital projects across various sectors
  • Pre- and post-contract experience
  • Experience supporting high-tech industry clients is preferred
  • Good time management, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (MS Word, Excel, Project)
  • Experience with Primavera or Microsoft Projects is preferred
  • Working knowledge of industry-standard software, such as planning and scheduling and cost management applications
  • Desire to lead, mentor and develop a successful team
  • Well-organised, diligent, proactive, assertive, well-disciplined and commercially astute
  • A team player with a 'can-do' attitude, outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, respectful and flexible

The successful candidate will support one of the largest technology companies in the world. This role will involve acting as a business partner, offering cutting-edge solutions to the client's most challenging and highest priority construction programs in the Bay Area and abroad. The applicant must be highly articulate and have a clear and analytical approach to problem solving, with strong decision-making capabilities.

Responsibilities for the successful candidate will include:

  • Participating in the business development and management of new projects for quantity surveying, cost management and project management
  • Providing reasoned advice on complex matters, understanding when to escalate matters to superiors
  • Supporting RFP responses, forecasting resources needed for proposals, preparing proposals and leading negotiations
  • Supporting client account management, monthly invoicing, purchase order management and reviewing contractual terms
  • Supporting or mentoring junior staff
  • Preparing and leading project cost estimates from conceptual through various stages of design using experience, historical data and parametric ratios
  • Establishing new and maintaining existing estimating tools, methods and databases used to produce project estimates
  • Participating in industry benchmarking of project metrics
  • Providing cost forecasting and cost control, managing contingencies and reporting to stakeholders
  • Providing change order and claims review, including review and recommendation of entitlements in accordance with the contractual terms and conditions
  • Chairing risk workshops and managing risks throughout design and execution
  • Representing the organization in conferences with clients and prospective clients
