Senior Cost Engineer - Redmond, WA

Currie & Brown is currently looking for a senior cost engineer for our client in Redmond who meets the following requirements:

  • Effective written and oral communication skills across all levels of an organization
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction, business or related field, or equivalent and related experience
  • Minimum of ten years' experience in engineering, procurement and construction projects or operating in industrial facilities in a cost control position
  • Excellent knowledge of applications such as MS Office (specifically Excel) and SharePoint, as well as working knowledge of enterprise cost management systems such as PRISM
  • Experience with Primavera, MS Project and Earned Value Management Systems is desirable but not essential
  • Understanding of performance measurement and cost/schedule integration concepts and principles
  • Proactive, self-starting and requiring minimal supervision
  • Demonstrable analytical, qualitative and presentation skills

The successful candidate will have the ability and knowledge to perform quality assurance on cost control procedures, monitor costs, and collect cost data to ensure conformity with budget directives.

Responsibilities for the successful candidate will include:

Qualitative improvement

  • Maintaining stewardship over role documentation including ensuring cost engineer onboarding documentation and all reference materials are up to date with current processes, procedures and tools
  • Capturing and aggregating operational gaps between role responsibilities and standards of procedures
  • Providing next level scrutiny to all cost engineer operational functions

Cost engineer operational functions

  • Utilizing a proprietary project management control system as well as other tools for cost management
  • Maintaining positive working relationships with peers as well as project and program leaders
  • Managing capital budgets
  • Managing contractual commitments
  • Reviewing and validating project expenditures
  • Managing potential change orders and associated change management
  • Overseeing WBS selections
  • Managing monthly cash flow projections, including issuing project-specific templates
  • Performing monthly cash flow variance analysis
  • Preparing, reviewing and publishing monthly cost reports
  • Facilitating weekly/monthly financial reporting and review meetings
  • Performing cost report variance analysis
  • Validating budgets, PO commitments, expenditures and forecast to source documents
  • Ensuring accurate and timely submission of financial documents
  • Supporting ad-hoc reporting as required
  • Monitoring invoices and non-PO issues
  • Supporting cost system implementation changes/upgrades
