Costing energy efficiency improvements in existing commercial property

In collaboration with the Investment Property Forum (IPF) we have released an updated and extended version of our industry-leading research report: ‘Costing Energy Efficiency Improvements in Existing Commercial Property’.

The research supports asset managers as they explore energy efficiency upgrades, focusing in particular on the related potential costs. Building on previous research, the extended version covers a broader range of commercial asset types, including student accommodation and build-to-rent.

With the transition to net zero, it’s essential to meet regulatory requirements and deliver a return on investment through improving the energy efficiency of commercial buildings, while managing the cost of upgrades. This report helps commercial property asset managers to optimise these often complex and competing decisions.

The research identifies where the costs and savings, as well as the energy efficiency improvements, can be found for seven different building typologies. A range of discrete and combined packages of improvement measures have been assessed for their impact on EPC ratings, energy use, carbon emissions, and cost. The report identifies five key steps investors and asset managers can take when considering energy efficiency upgrades to their assets. The report also provides a downloadable analysis tool designed to help investors and asset managers explore the costs and benefits of driving down carbon and energy use intensity.
