Lion Rock 72 wins HKIDA Gold Award

Lion Rock 72, a co-working space for local start-ups at InnoCentre in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong, has won the 2017 HK Professional Interior Design Gold Award from the Hong Kong Interior Design Association (HKIDA).

Led by design architects MUSA Ltd, Currie & Brown provided full quantity surveying services for the 10,000ft² project, which adopted a flexible spatial design to accommodate the functional needs of resident start-up companies as well as university R&D project teams.

Entrepreneurs can make use of various multifunctional areas for team work, presentations and product launches. The space has been created as a collaboration between Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

MUSA founder Belinda Ho noted: "We have worked with the owner, end-users, consultant team and contractors on multiple projects in the past, and the project is truly the collaborative effort of a dream team."

Inspired by the Lion Rock spirit, each functional zone features a district under the iconic Lion Rock. The facilities in each zone are designed to be flexible, with singular and more private spaces available alongside areas for team collaborations through the provision of movable and diverse seating arrangements. A small-scale workshop for prototyping is operational 24 hours a day to meet the start-ups’ need for flexible working hours.

"Lion Rock 72 is a forward-looking and highly sustainable project," commented Currie & Brown’s project leader Jill Kennedy. "It includes the upcycling of donated furniture and retro props alongside some of the latest energy technologies such as intelligent lighting systems operable by individual smartphones."
