London’s Riverside Campus reaches completion
3 August 2017
An innovative three-school campus in London has reached completion as part of a wider regeneration scheme in the local borough. Riverside Campus, which broke ground in November 2015, was constructed using both a modular off-site solution and traditional build, and stands on a remediated brownfield site in Barking, East London.
Currie & Brown delivered technical advisory services on the scheme for the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and Partnership Learning, a multi-academy trust. The new school offers over 28,800m² of general teaching, specialist teaching and ancillary spaces, and is projected to host 2,600 pupils and 400 members of staff by 2025. Provision has been made for pupils of mixed abilities and needs. The campus offers places for children from nursery to sixth form age and incorporates a special educational needs school.
Jack Keillor, divisional director and technical advisor at Currie & Brown, stated: "Riverside Campus represents one of the largest-ever off-site construction contracts in the UK education sector. The modular format allowed us to take full advantage of economies of scale. The development’s value extends beyond classroom facilities, with multi-purpose sports areas also being made available to the public outside of core school hours."
