The new Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital in St Albans, Melbourne opened its doors on 15 May 2019. Currie & Brown provided cost management services on the project for the Department of Health and Human Services Victoria.
The Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital offers local women and families in Melbourne’s west world-class maternity and paediatric services, honouring the legacy of Victoria’s first female Premier Joan Kirner.
The state-of-the-art hospital means more local mothers can give birth and access specialist services closer to home. The new $200 million, multi-level facility consolidates women’s and children’s services and increases the capacity of public health services. It will include 20 delivery rooms, 39 special care nursery cots, four theatres, one procedure room, 64 maternity and 32 paediatric beds.
Mike Cox, director at Currie & Brown, said: “The Joan Kirner hospital is a world-class facility that will provide a safe, caring and welcoming environment for women, children and the wider community.
Thanks to the construction of the Joan Kirner Hospital, mothers from the western suburbs are able to have their baby and get the world-class care they need right through their journey, closer to home.”
