Redevelopment of Hall For Cornwall has started

Construction work on Hall For Cornwall’s redevelopment, Cornwall’s largest independent presenting theatre, has officially begun. The Hall for Cornwall Trust appointed Currie & Brown to provide cost and project management services on the project, which is expected to reopen in autumn 2020.

The redevelopment project will expand the theatre’s capacity with a new three-tiered auditorium increasing seating capacity to 1,356. Support has been received from several funders including Arts Council England, Heritage Fund, European Union Regional Development Fund, Cornwall Council and the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership.

Currie & Brown is also involved with the redevelopment of the Back Quay area of the building to create a new digital creative hub, with workspaces and meeting spaces for the creative industries, alongside reinstating Boscawen Street entrance as the front entrance/foyer to the new theatre.

Myles Clough, director at Currie & Brown, said: “We are delighted to be providing cost and project management services for the county’s largest performing arts venue. The extensive refurbishment will place Hall For Cornwall at the heart of Truro’s cultural and economic offering and we look forward to seeing the end result.”
