South Devon College’s new Hi Tech & Digital Centre welcomes students

Work has completed on the new Hi Tech & Digital Centre at South Devon College, for which Currie & Brown provided cost management services.
The £17 million state-of-the-art centre was opened in September and provides students with a dedicated centre for learning and development within the thriving digital and hi-tech industries. The centre boasts a 100-seat screening suite, flexible work and innovation spaces, photography suites and engineering and data workshops.
Currie & Brown worked closely with the college, stakeholders and the design team to achieve affordability and value for money while maximising the visual impact and quality of the building. While these are often competing objectives, the result here is a truly stunning building.
Robust and accurate cost reporting, combined with strong risk management, enabled the college to transfer funds strategically between contingency allowances and build/FF&E budgets throughout the project to maximise investment into the facility.
Award-winning Michael Grubb Studio provided the impressive feature lighting array to the front elevations to highlight and showcase the college’s new flagship building on the approach to their Long Road campus.
Commenting on the project Paul Chamings, director at Currie & Brown, said: “The new Hi Tech & Digital Centre is a fantastic project and one the college and everyone involved in its delivery can be very proud of. Currie & Brown has thoroughly enjoyed working on the project, which was delivered on time and on budget.”
