Devizes Health Centre achieves topping out
20 October 2021
On 11 October a topping out ceremony was held for Devizes Health Centre, a new facility to provide additional capacity for primary care services in the town and to replace the Devizes Community Hospital which is no longer fit for purpose.
Currie & Brown was appointed by the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group to produce the full business case (FBC) for the Devizes Health Centre project, which was approved by NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSEI) in April 2021.
Work commenced on site in June 2021, with the aim that the state-of-the-art centre will be fully operational by autumn 2022. The new building will be one of the region’s first integrated care centres, centralising a number of different health and care providers, including services such as physiotherapy, podiatry, mental health and outpatient clinics. The facility will also provide clinical space for a same-day urgent appointment service that will be run by local GPs.
Commenting on the ceremony, Martin Clark, director in Currie & Brown’s London office, said: “Having been involved throughout the project, we can now see the benefits coming to light of the hard work that was put into planning the facility and securing funding. Replacing the Devizes Community Hospital and bringing together various NHS services into one location will make it easier for the local community to access vital support and treatment going forward.”
