Keele University to build innovation centre number seven

Currie & Brown is providing quantity surveying and employer’s agent services on the design and build of a seventh innovation centre at Keele University.

The innovation centre will be a purpose-built facility within the Keele Science and Innovation Park. Phase one of the state-of-the-art building will be funded by the Research England Development Fund, the European Regional Development Fund — as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020 — and the government’s Getting Building Fund.

Innovation centre 7 (IC7) will provide a dedicated home for a community of experts, researchers and businesses to physically and virtually support micro, small- and medium-sized enterprises with the development and implementation of digital technologies. The centre will act as a demonstrator for smart energy, cities and transport, promoting the highest of sustainability standards.

The 2,696m2 building will be constructed to BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standards, featuring a data visualisation suite, office space and hi-tech meeting and collaboration spaces. Building completion is set for the spring of 2022.

Jason Scott, associate director in Currie & Brown’s Birmingham office, commented: “Currie & Brown has delivered a number of innovation centres for institutions across the country. We are pleased to be able to bring that expertise to Keele, on the design and build of their seventh innovation centre.”
