Phase one of Meadway regeneration in Birmingham now complete
8 November 2021
Currie & Brown provided multidisciplinary services on phase one of Birmingham City Council’s Meadway regeneration scheme, completed in 2021.
This £20 million phased scheme will provide approximately 200 dwellings with an adjacent retail development and significant public realm improvements.
Work began on phase one in 2014, comprising 50 per cent of the dwellings, highway improvements and a major arterial road roundabout.
The scope included regeneration of a former tower block and retail site into a mixed-tenure private and affordable community, based on Birmingham City Council’s best-in-class house-type blueprints.
Currie & Brown was appointed as project manager across full design services on the scheme, acting as lead consultant, project and programme manager from inception to completion.
Stephen Oxley, project director at Currie & Brown, commented: “Our approach of providing a one-stop multidisciplinary technical role enabled us to successfully deliver phase one within budget. The scheme will transform the area and provide new housing, with phase two including retail and open spaces, bringing a range of community benefits to what was an underused area.”
