Progress underway on phase two of the V&A Photography Centre

Currie & Brown is providing quantity surveying services on phase two of the Photography Centre at the V&A in London.

Phase one of the V&A Photography Centre opened in 2018 to critical acclaim, celebrating the original features of the 19th-century picture galleries and creating innovative and imaginative visitor spaces. Phase two, scheduled for completion in 2023, includes an addition of four new spaces, with input from architects Purcell and Gibson Thornley.

Following successful completion of phase one, Currie & Brown continues to support the V&A with quantity surveying services. Enabling works for phase two were completed in 2019, and the project team is now supporting the V&A on the base build refurbishment and fit-out works through to completion of the centre in preparation for opening in 2023.

Phase two will increase the overall display area of the Photography Centre and will feature an interactive gallery about the history and use of the camera, as well as an impressive reading room dedicated to photography and the book, which will visibly store the Royal Photographic Society collection of rare and unique photobooks. Two further display galleries will show global contemporary photography and cutting-edge commissions.

Julie Urquhart, associate in Currie & Brown’s London office, said: “We are delighted to continue providing our services to the V&A as part of our framework agreement. The opening of the first phase of the Photography Centre was a huge success, and we aim to build on that in completing phase two.”
