Currie & Brown launches tree-planting initiative
22 April 2022
Currie & Brown has launched a tree-planting initiative designed to support the company’s efforts to create a sustainable future for our planet.
Currie & Brown Canopy is a programme that will see the company partner with external providers to plant a tree to represent every person currently employed in the global business.
Over 2,000 trees will be planted in 2022 – offsetting more than 50 tons of carbon - an equivalent of more than 2 million smart phone charges or 400,000 miles driven each year.
The initiative supports the theme of Earth Day 2022: "invest in our planet" and reflects Currie & Brown’s goal to minimise the environmental impact of its business.
Sustainability is a core value for Currie & Brown. As well as paying attention to its own sustainability choices, Currie & Brown supports clients with sustainability consulting for their build programmes.
Sean Cole, senior director in the USA and global sustainability spokesperson for Currie & Brown, feels that sustainability consulting is likely to take on a larger role for the company in the future. As he explains: "According to the World Green Building Council the building sector is responsible for 39% of energy-related carbon emissions. We realise that we are in a strong position to address the current climate crisis by helping our clients reach their own carbon reduction goals.
"Mitigating their impact on the environment is becoming a higher priority for our clients. As this trend continues, we expect sustainability consulting for construction programmes to become a growing area of focus for our business. Given the value we place on sustainability as a company, we welcome the opportunity to grow our service offerings while simultaneously tackling one of the most serious issues of our time."
Currie & Brown chief executive officer, Alan Manuel, recognises that we all have a part to play in the health and wellbeing of our environment. He notes: "If we can pay attention to our own sustainability choices as a company, as well as use our skills and knowledge to educate and provide solutions to our industry, our actions can have a real impact on the future of our planet."
