Tarka Leisure Centre opens in Barnstaple

Currie & Brown is delighted to announce the recent opening of the new Tarka Leisure Centre in Barnstaple.

Tarka Leisure Centre brings all of the town’s leisure facilities into one site in Seven Brethren and comprises a tennis centre with six indoor and four outdoor tennis courts, full-size artificial grass football pitch, a 25m swimming pool, sports hall with badminton courts, gym, two multipurpose exercise studios, Devon’s first ‘endless’ ski slope, indoor soft play area, outdoor play area and café.

Currie & Brown provided authority’s representative and independent certifier services on this £14.5 million project, supporting North Devon Council with the scheme since 2015. The 20-month build programme was completed on budget, despite local and global challenges, including the Covid-19 pandemic and supply chain disruption.

Miles Clough, director in the Exeter office, commented: “Currie & Brown is proud to have been advising the district council on this project since 2015 and we are very pleased with the quality of the sports and leisure facilities that have been provided within budget, as the leisure centre will be a major asset to Barnstaple, north Devon and visiting tourists for many years to come.”
