Currie & Brown appointed on The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) - the first of its kind in the UK
26 October 2023
Leading provider of cost management, project management and advisory services, Currie & Brown has been appointed by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust on the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease (MND), funded by Leeds Hospitals Charity.
Currie & Brown will provide cost management and contract administration services on the new purpose-built centre that will be located on the site of Seacroft Hospital on York Road in Leeds. It aims to be an innovative flagship architectural statement, offering an uplifting environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
MND is a life-limiting, progressive and incurable condition. Most patients will have a life expectancy of 12-24 months from diagnosis.
Leeds Hospitals Charity hopes to raise £6.8 million through their fundraising appeal to help make Rob’s dream of a specialist centre in Leeds a reality. The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease will provide a new care setting for patients with MND and their families, in a bespoke centre adapted to their needs.
A large team of more than ten specialists deliver the hospital care currently in a part of Seacroft Hospital used by different clinical teams. This is not easily accessible, does not have much natural light and the facilities do not suit MND patients. The vision for the new centre is to be a positive space supporting patients to ‘live in the now’, and a location for their families and support networks.
The centre will provide clinicians with access to the right equipment, space and technology to deliver optimum care to patients today, while adapting to new innovations and treatments for the patients of tomorrow.
Martin Clark, UK Head of Healthcare at Currie & Brown, comments: “Rob Burrow MBE is a local rugby legend, who is an inspiration to us all. We are delighted to be involved in delivering such an important facility for the community that will provide excellent patient-centred care in a safe and homely environment.”
Craige Richardson, Director of Estates and Facilities at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, comments: “We are pleased that Currie & Brown has joined the project team. We welcome their support in delivering this brand-new centre that will house all MND services under one roof for the first time. The centre will create comfortable and peaceful surroundings for patients and their families – a place that instils hope and courage.”
Besides consulting on the landmark project, five members of the Currie & Brown team also raised funds for the centre by participating in the 10K Leeds Abbey Dash on Sunday 22 October. Donations can be made via the Just Giving page. All proceeds will go towards the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease.
