15 July 2024
Currie & Brown has been appointed by newcleo – an energy company that is pioneering small modular reactors (SMR) nuclear reactor technologies - to provide, develop and embed cost estimating capabilities.
This commission will see Currie & Brown develop a cost estimating capability within newcleo, as part of its Intelligent Client (IC) function. Our experts will lead and embed a capability based on best practices for global cost estimating expertise, strategies, tools, and ways of working. Additionally, we will provide ongoing estimating support to newcleo's Project Management Office (PMO) team for their current and future projects.
Committed to developing the next generation of sustainable nuclear energy and fuel technology – including closing of the fuel cycle to provide safer, cleaner, and more reliable energy – newcleo is developing Generation IV small modular reactors, a new type of reactor that's faster to build than traditional plants. Work is progressing to support the deployment of a first of a kind reactor, with plans to also expand across Europe and beyond. newcleo's technology enhances safety in nuclear power, while also promoting sustainability by utilising nuclear waste as fuel and reducing overall waste production.
John Mansfield, Director at Currie & Brown and Cost Estimating Lead for newcleo, comments: "Our work with newcleo enables us to bring our wealth of experience in providing cost estimating consultancy and delivering complex programmes to support their ambitions. We look forward to helping develop their cost estimating capability, to drive greater value across their global business.”
Carl Woodrow, Head of PMO at newcleo, said: “We have ambitious plans for the future, and our partnership with Currie & Brown will be key to helping us achieve those goals through establishing a forward-looking, global programme management office.”
