Alford Community Campus

Alford Community Campus

The Alford Community Campus project was Phase 3 of the Scotland’s Schools for the Future programme and is now home to a nursery, a primary school and an academy. The campus facilities include a sports hall, climbing wall and theatre. Outdoor facilities include an all-weather pitch, alongside grass pitches.

For wider community benefit, the project offers a swimming pool, community library and accommodation for Aberdeenshire Council’s community learning and development team.

Defined by a brief developed through community consultation, the building revolves around a café culture, with social spaces and community elements integrated into the building.

A simple pitched roof form and natural materials link the building back to the surrounding rural landscape. The spaces are two-storeys high, which allows for flexibility of space and a large amount of natural light.

The collaborative approach developed by Aberdeenshire Council and hub North Scotland contributed to the success of this project.

Our role

Currie & Brown was appointed by hub North Scotland to provide project management, cost management and CDM services.
