The high-visibility project to relocate the BBC’s Manchester operations, together with a number of departments from the London White City campus, to Salford Quays to create a new media city was an enormous success.
The development involved the fitting-out of three high-quality, low-energy, office buildings, providing 30,658m2 lettable area with a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. The entire space has been designed to provide for flexible working for over 2,000 employees.
Since completion in 2011, the buildings have shown the flexibility and quality of design by being able to accommodate the growth in people and departments. In 2016 the project was the winner of the BCO Test of Time award.
We assisted the BBC in ensuring that the final solution was the most ‘value-added’ end product that met their needs at opening and in the future. This included the separate procurement of CAT B and C works from handover of the base build.
Additionally, we provided cost services for a new outside broadcast base to house and service the news vehicles together with those for the Philharmonic Orchestra.
