Drum Theatre
The Drum Theatre is a 521-seat state-of-the-art, purpose-built performing arts theatre within the heritage façade and building of the former Dandenong Town Hall.
The multipurpose arts space features a gallery, performing arts area and workshop spaces. It is designed to be a venue for creative and performing arts organisations, functions, regular meetings and special events.
The facility hosts more than 150 performances for over 60,000 patrons each year and showcases a range of professional touring productions, local theatrical performances and community presentations. The council chose to retain the Lonsdale Street façade of the Town Hall building (originally opened in 1890) as a feature that adds a distinctive reminder of the past.
Our role
Currie & Brown was selected to provide cost planning and full project management services. In this role we led the client through the concept and options process, design management, cost planning, authority negotiations, completion and handover of the operating facilities.
Our involvement helped the client realise their vision of putting a modern performing arts centre into a historic building while complying with specialist Heritage Victoria requirements. We did this by facilitating communications between multiple stakeholders, thereby providing strategic advice and expertise on projects of this nature.
