Expo 2020 Dubai
The project is the development of the Expo 2020 site in Dubai, which will showcase both the city and the country on the international stage. After Expo 2020, the site will provide a legacy for the UAE and will form part of the wider Dubai World Central area.
Lasting six months, the event will attract millions of visitors to explore pavilions, exhibits and cultural events staged by hundreds of participants, including nations, international organisations and businesses. Expo 2020 Dubai is expected to attract 25 million visitors, 70% of whom will be from overseas. This will be the first Expo in which the majority of visitors come from beyond a nation’s borders.
Currie & Brown was selected to provide cost management services for the project. Our initial role was on a secondment basis to the Dubai World Trade Centre to adjudicate and verify the cost management deliverables carried out by the programme management consultant, and to provide procurement support services as the planning and delivery of the Expo site was developed. After the initial phase, the Bureau Expo Dubai 2020 organisation was formed and we continue to provide ongoing cost management services.
We played a significant role in helping the client establish the budget for the Expo 2020 development through the cost validation of the revised masterplan, which was updated after Dubai was selected as the host city. We also assisted with the procurement of essential early-stage packages, ensuring that steady progress was made and deadlines were met.
