Filwood Green Business Park
Filwood Green Business Park was designed to stimulate entrepreneurship and job creation in the Knowle West and Hengrove Park areas as part of the ongoing regeneration of South Bristol.
The building opened in 2015, and offers workshop, studio and office space targeted at small and medium-sized businesses operating with an environmental ethos. It also provides a large open-plan WorkHub, along with car parking and public realm works. An ecological zone, in combination with a sedum green roof, reinstates and enhances any ecological areas impacted during development.
The environmental ethos is incorporated throughout the building with electric vehicle charging points and extensive photovoltaic panels. The inclusion of environmental technologies and services aims to educate and inspire ongoing development of green buildings.
Since completion, the project has won the 2degrees ‘Best New Building’ award and the Bristol Post’s ‘Eco Green Building’ award. The project achieved the first ever BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating for an industrial building in the South West.
Currie and Brown was appointed by Bristol City Council from the outset of the scheme to provide project management and cost management services. With the design team we developed the brief into tender information and procured the main contractor through an OJEU restricted tender process. Following award of the design and build contract we administered the contract and acted as employer’s agent through to completion and handover, agreeing the final account and settling claims.
