Pilot training system facilities

The facilities delivered under this $329.8 million project will support a capability upgrade to the Australian Defence Force's (ADF) pilot training system, in order to meet future training needs for a new Pilatus PC-21 fixed-wing training platform. This is required to replace the Pilatus PC-9/A which has reached the end of its purposeful life.

Our role

Currie & Brown is providing project management services for the project. Specific tasks include:

• Managing all project procurement activities during the planning and delivery phase, including independent cost management and programming services
• Reviewing design options to ensure facilities are delivered to achieve capability function requirements
• Management of multiple stakeholder inputs
• Reviewing and implementing risk mitigation strategies
• Administering and managing all project contracts
• Drafting federal government business cases to secure project funding
• Supporting defence as part of the parliamentary approval process
• Managing all contract, project and budget deliverables on behalf of the client

The project has been driven by the capability need dates to implement the new platform. A constant detailed risk mitigation process with ongoing review throughout the project life ensures that the project budget and programme deliverables are attained, defects are minimised and high-quality standards are achieved.
