St. Vincent's Private Hospital, Werribee

The project involved the construction of a new 112-bed private hospital on four hectares of land in the East Werribee Employment precinct.

The hospital provides orthopaedics, obstetrics, cardiology, ENT, oncology, gynaecology, general surgery and rehabilitation services. The facility caters for the local baby boom with four birthing suites, four special care nursery cots and a dedicated 32-bed maternity ward.

Our role

Currie & Brown’s role was to manage all cost aspects from business case preparation to completion of the project.

Our experience on adjacent sites allowed us to identify potential challenges in the earliest stages of the project. Some of the key cost issues that were identified and mitigated with adequate cost allowances included:

  • Staging requirements. The full fit-out of the hospital was completed in three stages and required adequate consideration of capital outlay in the first stage to support the fit-out in the second and third stages.
  • Planning for future expansions. We provided various cost options to allow designers and other stakeholders to make informed financial and operational decisions with respect to future-proofing the design.
  • Service infrastructure. We worked with the services engineer to explore the best possible outcome for the site considering the capital and maintenance costs.
