Sustainable mixed-use development in Shanghai

Our team in China are working with Hongkong Land to deliver a major new development on the West Bund of Shanghai.

The West Bund development includes 660,000sqm of office space, 210,000sqm of retail and 170,000sqm of residential space. There will also be a five-star hotel, convention centre and sports facilities.

Our part in bringing this environmentally focused project to life

We’re providing full quantity surveying services on this large-scale development, which is the first near zero energy project in the region.

Getting involved early in the project, we worked closely with the designers to find new process systems and materials to help this project meet it’s near zero targets. We also carried out market research and product research, alongside our cost management services.

After preparing the target costs, we’re now working with Hongkong Land through the construction phases to ensure the project is delivered within budget.

Putting sustainability at the heart of this development

With the goal of being the region’s first near zero development, it was important to find innovative ways to reduce the project’s carbon footprint. To reduce reliance on gas, the air conditioning and underfloor heating systems have been combined, with dual-supply equipment leading to a more energy-efficient solution.

The facade design helps with heat preservation and heat conduction. There are also requirements for air tightness and shading factor control. Our cost management experts are working with Hongkong Land to ensure these sustainability-focused features are delivered in line with the target costs.

Work is underway on this major development in Shanghai, and we look forward to completion in 2025.
