Theatre refurbishment and new ICU
The project comprises an upgrade of the existing seven-theatre operating suite and support accommodation located on the upper ground level of the west tower at Monklands Hospital. It also includes the relocation of the adjacent intensive care unit (ICU).
When complete, the project will provide seven fully refurbished and upgraded operating theatres, two with laminar flow capabilities, and supporting accommodation. The ICU will be relocated to a new purpose-built extension connected to the theatres on the upper ground level. Both of these facilities are being constructed to current healthcare design standards, in the theatres as far as is possible within the existing building footprint, improving their compliance and service quality for patients and staff.
This project is being delivered over 12 phases to allow NHS Lanarkshire to maintain seven operational facilities throughout the duration of the programme. This drives the need for phasing, extensive planning and logistics management, and negates the need for expensive transfers or moving some of the procedures off site to other NHS or private hospitals.
Currie & Brown has been selected as the lead advisor for the project.
As the lead advisor, we are able to provide multiple services under a single appointment, including project management, joint cost advisor and contract supervisor services. This arrangement ensures that both Currie & Brown and other team members, including the client, apply appropriate resources to ensure that this complex project is delivered on time, within budget and with minimal disruption to business continuity within the hospital.
