Tilbury Port expansion receives development consent

The Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling, has approved development plans for the expansion of the Port of Tilbury. Currie & Brown is providing project management, commercial management and procurement services on the Tilbury2 project.

Tilbury2 is one of the main projects under the Port of Tilbury’s £1 billion 2012-2020 investment programme. The project involves the creation of a new port terminal at the former Tilbury Power Station site on the bank of the River Thames.

The new terminal will stockpile construction materials and process aggregates for the production of asphalt and concrete products. The works include the creation of hard surfaced pavements, new and improved conveyors, the improvement and extension of the river jetty, and the creation of a new roll-on/roll-off berth.

Commenting on the news Peter Ward, commercial director at the Port of Tilbury said: “We are very pleased to have the expertise of Currie & Brown to help us with the project management to create this new port for London and the South East. There is a lot to do over the next 12 months and we look forward to opening our new port, Tilbury2, in 2020.”

Steven Hayter, director at Currie & Brown, added: “We are delighted that the Tilbury2 project has received development consent. Once complete, the port will be the UK’s largest unaccompanied freight ferry port and the country’s biggest construction processing hub.”
