Glebe Farm, the first all-through fossil fuel-free school in Milton Keynes, completes

Currie & Brown is delighted to announce the completion of the first all-through fossil fuel-free school in Milton Keynes.

Glebe Farm All-Through School is an integrated, inclusive and sustainable school providing a 39-place nursery, 630-place primary and a 900-place secondary school. It is the first fossil-free all-through school and major project delivered for the now City of Milton Keynes, as featured on BBC Look East (West).

A gateway development and an exemplar facility, the facility has been designed to meet and exceed Milton Keynes' commitment to carbon reduction and eliminates the use of any fossil fuels. Heating is via air source heat pump and underfloor heating and the building is naturally ventilated.

Working alongside contractor Morgan Sindall and architect Synergy, we provided project management, quantity surveying, supervisor and M&E clerk of works services on the scheme. Project lead Adam Mactavish held a sustainability workshop early in the process to clarify the sustainability requirements/definitions and inform the design intent.

The project kicked off the day after lockdown 2020 and was delivered on time and within budget despite the challenges faced, including Brexit and Covid-19.

Glebe Farm All-Through School project is an excellent example of forward-thinking design, built on a vision to improve sustainability, social and environmental efficiency, and inclusivity for the school of 1,500 students. The recognition for the project was well deserved and Currie & Brown was honoured to work on such an exciting project that will provide a great asset for the local community. The project represented a true reflection of collaboration with all parties.
