The Simon Sainsbury Centre at the Cambridge Judge Business School has been awarded a 2019 Civic Trust Award. Currie & Brown provided project management, NEC supervisor and principal designer services on the project for the University of Cambridge.
Located behind the Cambridge Judge Business School's iconic Addenbrooke's building on Trumpington Street, the centre is a four-storey, 5,000m2 structure with increased lecture, meeting room and dining facilities under one roof.
The centre was also the recipient of one of five special awards, the Michael Middleton Special Award. This award is presented in recognition of an outstanding restoration project or new build project within a conservation area, as a memorial to Michael Middleton CBE, who established the Civic Trust Awards in 1959. The project has also been shortlisted for a RIBA East Award.
Announcing the awards, the judges said: "The building not only demonstrates construction quality but is beautifully restrained yet appropriate for a leading academic institution."
Commenting on the news Stephen Law, director at Currie & Brown said: “We are delighted that the Simon Sainsbury Centre has been recognised for its construction quality and design. Currie & Brown has thoroughly enjoyed working on the project for the University of Cambridge, which brings students, faculty partners and clients together under one roof.”
