Contract close achieved on West Lothian schools project

Currie & Brown is acting as technical advisor on the construction of three new schools in Winchburgh.
Contract close has been reached between West Lothian Council, hub South East and main contractor Morrison Construction on the development of a £60.5 million, three-school campus. The plans involve replacing Holy Family Primary School with a purpose-built combined primary and nursery facility, and constructing two new secondary schools: the non-denominational Winchburgh Academy and the denominational Sinclair Academy.
Plans also include a shared physical education and community block with associated outdoor sports facilities and a 25-metre swimming pool. The secondary school buildings will be three-storeys, while the primary facility will reach two storeys. Photovoltaic panels and sustainable heating systems will be installed to reduce the carbon footprint across the site.
Work will begin on site in August, with all facilities scheduled to open and be in use from 2023.
Scott Brown, project director at hub South East, commented: “A great deal of work has gone into the development and design of this project in the background, so reaching contract close is a significant milestone in making the new schools for Winchburgh a reality.”
Douglas Ross, director in Currie & Brown’s Glasgow office, added: “Following on from our work as technical advisor on the construction of West Calder High School, we are delighted to continue our relationship with West Lothian Council and hub South East on the construction of a further three schools.”
