Hong Kong’s first zero-carbon building: a landmark in sustainable design

We helped bring Hong Kong’s first zero-carbon building to life. It’s a bold example of what sustainable living can look like in a modern city.

A big step toward a greener future

Set in Kowloon Bay, the building sits in a green park, the first in Hong Kong to feature a native urban woodland. The project cuts greenhouse gas emissions and inspires people to live more sustainably. It also shows the world how cities can build without harming the planet.

A place for all

The CIC-Zero Carbon Park (CIC-ZCP) is more than just a building. It’s a hub for learning, sharing and driving change. It includes:

  • A visitor centre with interactive exhibits
  • A model home that shows what low-carbon living looks like
  • A multi-purpose hall and event areas

Fast delivery, big impact

We worked with the Construction Industry Council (CIC) task force to see if the project was feasible. After that, CIC appointed us as the cost consultant for the 18-month fast-track delivery.

Since the CIC-ZCP had a completely new design, we worked closely with the design team and suppliers to create a cost estimate.

Many suppliers and contractors were involved, offering new and innovative equipment. We helped CIC find a smart way to buy these items. The goal was to keep costs down and make sure the right warranties were in place to protect their interests.

Because much of the equipment was new to Hong Kong, we also worked with suppliers to make sure long-lead items were ordered on time.

The project has won major awards, like the Grand Award (New Building) at the Green Building Awards, for its smart use of design and technology.

The path to net zero

CIC-ZCP proves that zero-carbon buildings can work even in crowded, hot cities like Hong Kong.

Built in partnership with the CIC and the Hong Kong government, it shows how smart design and clean energy can help fight climate change. It’s also a global model for green building in sub-tropical climates.

Smart, green technology

This building uses the latest in sustainable tech. It connects to the local power grid and uses solar panels. A biodiesel tri-generation system powers heating, cooling, and electricity.

More than a building, CIC-ZCP is a hub for innovation and community learning—a place where smart ideas turn into real change.
