Navigating the unexpected

We were appointed as project and construction manager. We had a full-time team of six on-site from demolition through to final delivery.

Nobody could have predicted that the project would be hit by a global pandemic. Despite delays caused by COVID-19, the project was completed on budget and to the highest standards.

The resort

This is a resort designed to impress. It includes:

  • 179 sea-facing suites
  • 12 private pool villas
  • 12 beachfront villas
  • 1 Presidential villa
  • Gym, pool bar, and beachfront seafood restaurant
  • Luxury spa with 10 double treatment rooms

All set on 19 rai of beachfront property, with sweeping views over Choengmon Bay.

Building smarter, faster, and better

The original plan called for traditional brick walls and full concrete floors. Out team suggested a more efficient option to the client: use Q-Con wall panels and hollow-core floor planks, with concrete floors only in the bathrooms. This change meant we could skip the standard 28-day wait to support upper floors, which saved valuable time.

The Q-Con panels also improved soundproofing between guest rooms, as confirmed through testing.

Working through challenges

COVID-19 meant site closures, health and safety concerns, rising material costs and supply chain disruptions.

Still, we kept quality high and delivered a resort that exceeded expectations.

Community and environmental impact

Throughout construction, we reused salvaged materials from the demolition to fully fit out the Beachfront Villas and restaurant. This reduced waste, saved time, and added unique character.

By focusing on quality, sustainability, and teamwork, we helped deliver an award-winning resort. It blends luxury with purpose, offering guests an unforgettable stay while supporting the local community and reducing environmental impact.

Awards and recognition

The Kimpton Kitalay Samui has earned major accolades, including:

  • Best Hotel Resort in Thailand (2022) – Travel + Leisure
  • TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice Award
  • Green Hotel Award – Gold Certification
  • Global Winner: Luxury Modern Hotel Spa – World Luxury Spa Awards
  • 1 MICHELIN Key – Thailand’s MICHELIN Key Awards

Richard Bell, client’s representative and shareholder, said: “The Currie & Brown team demonstrated professionalism, and commitment throughout the development of our hotel project. They helped bring our vision to life—and beyond.”

Thailand Country Director Nattapat Prahasdangkura said: “We’re proud of this project. It’s sustainable, luxurious, and built within budget. A real team effort with lasting impact.”
