Currie & Brown completes work on Phase 2 of Nexus Surrey CC project

Currie & Brown was appointed by Surrey County Council to provide post-contract NEC project management services at the end of RIBA Stage 3 through to completion of the Nexus project, which is a commercial development near Gatwick Airport at the Manor Royal business park in Crawley.

Under Phase 2, the new training and operations buildings were completed, and it has now been pre-let to L3 Link Simulation, providing both commercial airline flight simulator training and production facility buildings with associated infrastructure, car parking and landscaping. The company offers simulation and training facilities to the global commercial airline industry.

Part of Currie & Brown’s role involved undertaking a benchmarking and gateway review of the RIBA Stage 3 developed design. The aim of this review was to provide assurance and due diligence that the tenant’s requirements were aligned with the building contract and agreement for lease and baselined accordingly.

Richard Cairnes, director at Currie & Brown, said: “We’ve really enjoyed working on the project over the last two years. We had a great team that performed well together. Currie & Brown was engaged right at the start of construction, and there are now two outstanding buildings. The development creates revenue for Surrey County Council as well as providing world-class flight simulator training and production facilities for L3. It’s a flagship development for Manor Royal, and it’s also a benefit for the local area.”

Surrey County Council leader Tim Oliver said: “We aim to make the most of the property we own so it either provides the best possible services for residents, supports economic growth and regeneration or – as in this case – generates an income to invest in frontline services.”
