Promega UK’s new headquarters now complete

Currie & Brown was appointed by Promega UK, a leading supplier of biotechnology and life science products, to provide cost management and principal designer services on the construction of a new headquarters and logistics facility in Southampton.
The new building on the University of Southampton Science Park was required to facilitate the company’s expansion in the UK.
ArchitecturePLB was commissioned to design a workplace based upon Promega’s core values of wellbeing and sustainability.
The final building is split into two wings: a single-storey wing to house the logistics unit and laboratory; and a two-storey wing with offices, training facilities and breakout areas. With an aspiration to achieve, and potentially exceed, BREEAM ‘Excellent’ status, a green roof spans the single-storey building, providing those on the second floor with a view across the wildflower ‘meadow’ to the countryside beyond. The building benefits from solar shading, high-performance glazing and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) to provide sustainable solutions to heating and cooling the building.
Eckersley O’Callaghan provided structural engineering, Hoare Lea acted as mechanical and electrical engineers, and Dar Al-Handasah managed the overall project and contract administration. The project has been nominated for the RIBA Regional Awards in the South and also shortlisted for the commercial category in the RICS Social Impact Awards 2020, South East region.
Mark Hampton, associate in Currie & Brown’s Southampton office, commented: “Working on this prestigious project to provide a unique, employee-focused building on behalf of Promega UK has been a real privilege for Currie & Brown. The building’s sleek, modern design blends seamlessly with the surrounding countryside.”
