Handover has now taken place for the £4 million UK Collaboratorium for Research on Infrastructure and Cities (UKCRIC) Water Science Building at Cranfield University. Currie & Brown provided project management and principal designer services as part of their appointment on the Cranfield University framework.
The BREEAM ‘Excellent’-rated building will allow Cranfield University, as part of the UKCRIC, to understand more about the long-term performance of water infrastructure in the UK, ultimately delivering cheaper and more environmentally friendly approaches to water treatment.
The project entailed the construction of laboratory rooms, open-plan office space, breakout, meeting and board rooms and the installation of photovoltaic solar panels on the roof. Brise-soleil was used to provide shade from the sun and improve the environmental rating of the building.
Chris Morris, associate in Currie & Brown’s Milton Keynes office, remarked: “I am extremely proud to be part of the team working on such an important building as part of our ongoing work at Cranfield University. Completing the Water Science Building is a huge landmark in the development of the site.”
